Before I begin this entry, I must inform you of two things. First off, this is indeed quite a long entry, however, it is well worth the read. Secondly, I assure you that everything I mention in this entry is 100% real, not joking.
Today started off like any other day, except for the fact that I really wanted to go to the DCI marching band competition in Sioux Falls that night, however I could not find anyone to go with, since pretty much everyone and their mom was at SDSU orientation. During my lunch break from work, I called several people and asked if they wanted to go, but they were either not home or couldn't go. I went back to work thinking that I probably woundn't be going, but as I was walking to the post office to take a letter there, I looked through my phonebook and decided to call Ariela Bonen, since she loves marching band about as much as I do. I called her and she really wanted to go, so we made plans to go. I got off work a little early so we could get to Sufu at a decent time and get tickets and whatnot.
So we get to sufu shortly before they open the gates for the show and get out tickets. We go in when the gates are opened and take our seats and all that stuff. As you all probably know, it was quite hot out today, but suddenly it started to get a little cooler, the breeze picked up, and it got a bit cloudy. Then, one of the news guys from KSFY announced that due to possible rain and thunder/lightning, they were going to wait a little while before they began the event. Needless to say, 2 seconds after the announcement, it started to sprinkle. It was sprinkling and all and not that bad, but also lightning off in the distance. Ariela and I really hoped that they wouldn't call off the competition, but sadly, they eventually did. So we basically wasted $15 for the tickets because they were non-refundable even if it rains.
I decided that since we missed out on the show, we could stop through Madison on the way home and see Dominic for a little while, cause he was probably bored or something. So we went to Madison and hung out with him for a little while and didn't really do anything. Right before we left, it started pouring, which sucked. It was raining pretty heavy til we got a couple miles out of town, then it stopped, but continued to lightning like none other.
Then the "fun" began.
When we were about 5 miles east of Howard, we came up on two cars that were driving together. The one closest to us kept hitting their breaks, and then the lights would disappear. They did not have their headlights on. They were also swerving on the road. The car in front of them occasionally turned their lights off. Being freaked out by this, I decided that it would be best not to pass them, because they were probably drunk. Then, they started throwing cans (probably beer) and plastic containers out the window. We then decided to call 911, as this was getting crazy, and we didn't want to die. So I called 911 and told the person where we were and what was going on, and gave her my name and cellphone number. She told me that she contacted a cop and they were on their way to meet them in Howard or something.
After getting off the phone, I got a little closer to the car and was able to read the license plate, so I called 911 back and told them the number and she said that a cop might be calling me to get more information. As we were pulling into town, the cop called me and I told what was going on and that the cars pulled into this gas station and gave him the license plate number of the one car. He told me that he was about 10 miles out of town, and that he would get there ASAP. I think that having the nearest cop to Howard be 10 miles away is kind of ridiculous, but whatever.
If you have ever been in a situation like that, you will know that the adrenaline is crazy. I got such a rush from calling 911, and I don't know why. I guess it was quite exciting.
After we were past Howard, I nearly ran into a large, dead something in the middle of the road. I don't have a clue what it was...
So at this point it is still lightning everywhere and downpouring every once in a while, and this one lightning strike literally blinded me for a couple seconds and I could still "see" it for about 10 seconds afterwards.
As we get closer to Forestburg and while Ariela is telling all of this to Kaycee on her cellphone, I come around the curve right before Forestburg and start to hydroplane for a second. That was very freaky, almost died again.
When we turned on the Woonsocket corner and head towards Huron, it starts to rain much heavier than before. I decide to drive in the middle of the road since it is a 4-lane and didn't want to drive through any puddles beside the road. I tell Ariela that at least we shouldn't have to worry about deer since the weather is so bad, only the "short bus" ones. Nevertheless, about 5 minutes later we see a deer crossing the road in front of us, luckily it was far enough ahead where I didn't really have to break.
At this point, I was just waiting for flying pigs to come at me or something, I don't know. I was very glad to get home and not have to worry about drunks, deer, or rain/lightning.
So there you go, my story of the apocalypse-like happenings of my night. Now I must get to bed so I can work in the morning.
Btw, I had one person complete an offer for my free ipod, so if you want to help, go to http://www.freeiPods.com/?r=10147978
